I know that it is a very hard situation to be able to put trust and care of loved ones into someone else's hands. I became an advocate for disabled and elderly folks when my husbands grandmother became to ill to care for herself. I spent all my free time with her to help her stay in her own home until she became incapable and she was placed into a facility for the remainder of her time. I was not in the position to care for her as I had 3 small children at the time. I also spent from November of 2009 thru April of 2012 caring 24/7 for my mother who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. I became her champion during her illness to her very last day. I pride myself that she was given 6 months at the time of diagnosis. Her medical staff was amazed at her ability to stay healthy enough to fight a very hard and arduous fight for a year and a half. The consensus was do to the excellent support system, which I am proud to say was coordinated by me. She unfortunately passed on April 28,2012. Now that my children are grown up and off to college, I want to be able to provide the same care to others who can not do it for themselves. To be a support for family's who have loved ones with needs and desires to stay in the comfort of their own homes has become my mission. Cared for 83 year old grandmother who chose to be in her own home in her declining years. Although a very active and spunky woman she was suffering from dementia which posed serious physical and emotional tolls upon her and family. I was there to help cook, bake, clean house, laundry, reading, cards, and board games. To her general companionship was what kept her vital and involved . There were occasional doctors appointments and I did grocery and personal shopping on a regular basis. She was quite able to care for herself hygienically early on, but as her mental capacity dwindled, it became necessary to assist her. Being the very proud woman she was this was difficult for her to be open to even family members to assist in her care. I was able to relate and comfort her treating her with dignity in her difficult time. She became too sick for in home care and was placed in a facility to finish her remaining time until her passing in 2004.
