Greetings and Salutations, my name is Darlene Lesueur, I became a caregiver in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina hit because my grandmother fell ill. I was determined to go take care of her and my little boy Elijah whom was just five years old at the time. My son has Autism and really needed my help as well. There were also two other elderly women in that same neighborhood who needed assistance. Before I went to care for my grandmother, I was finishing up at school but moved as soon as I knew the hurricane was coming to be with my grandmother. My grandmother had a CNA helping her when I arrived, I felt that I should be the one to help her, so the CNA name Shelly told me to go and get trained and become a CNA, so I did. What I like/love about being a caregiver is that I give back, and just the smile that's on my patients face brightens up my day, I feel good about myself, that I can help. My personal achievement that I'm proud of is that I did pass my training for CNA and I did graduate from college with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology, so not only am I a caregiver, but a professionally trained one. I took an internship as well in The Williams Medical Clinic interviewing patients, recording vitals, cleaning exam rooms, and preparing them, collecting samples for microscope and blood collection count with a real trained lab specialist.
