About Jake

Hello, my name is Jake. I enjoy hiking, fishing, biking, reading, card games, movies, comedy shows, and plays. I am a great problem solver, critical thinker, and have great time management skills. I have attended three years of college and obtained my Associate's Degree with a 4.0 GPA from Spokane Falls Community College. I received their President's Scholar Medal for outstanding achievement. After graduating I received a $20,000/year scholarship to Whitworth University, where I attended for one year studying in their pre-medical school program to become an osteopathic doctor. I also have experience as an over the road truck driver, a cook/dishwasher at a restaurant, and as a babysitter for my nephew, who is five years old now. I have 16 years of experience as a caregiver for my father, who is quadriplegic due to a car accident while my mother was pregnant with me. When I am visiting him I act as an additional caregiver to his employed caregiver. This includes meal preparation, cleaning, medication management, transportation, and grooming. I enjoy caring for my father and spending time with him. I love going on trips with him around North Central Idaho, watching sports with him, and visiting museums with him. I have great organizational skills, so I am able to set up and maintain a busy schedule. I am a great critical thinker, so if a difficult situation arises I will be able to handle it and make the right decision. I am patient, which is a great skill to having when providing care to children, the elderly, and others who cannot fully take care of themselves. I am also proactive when it comes to diet and exercise, so eating healthy and staying healthy are very important to me. I like to keep up with the best methods of diet and exercise to stay as healthy as possible. I am also good at adapting to new environments, so settling into a new home and falling into a new routine of care is easy for me.

Experience & Education

Caregiver

Jan 2004 - Present
My father
I have experience as a caregiver for my father, who is quadriplegic due to a car accident while my mother was pregnant with me. I remember helping him out with daily activities as early as four years old. For 16 years I have been helping to complete most of his daily caregiving duties when I am with him. These responsibilities include getting mail and groceries, changing clothes, cooking, refilling water cups and jugs, grooming, giving medication, paying bills, handling monetary concerns, yard work, shoveling snow off his ramp and driveway, adjusting his wheelchair, adjusting him on his wheelchair, cleaning, helping him stretch, caring for his dog (from about 2004-2012, she passed away), washing and servicing his van, storing/retrieving items from his storage, and transporting him where he needs to go. When I am visiting him, we will take his van out about 2-3 times a week. I will cook for him often. If there is any problems or errands that need to be run, I will do them when I am with him.

Babysitter

Aug 2014 - Present
Babysitter for my nephew
As a babysitter for my nephew I help look after him when I am with him. As an infant I would help look after him when I was visiting his family, which was quite often. About a year and a half ago I moved closer to him and since then I can babysit him up to 7 days a week. Sometimes he will stay the night with me as well. Some of the things I do with him are take him on walks, play with him, go on bike rides, do arts and crafts, cook with him, read with him, do learning activities, play sports, talk with him about school, and go swimming with him.

Cook/Dishwasher

Apr 2019 - Jun 2019
Main St. Bar & Grill
As a prep-cook and dishwasher for Main St. Bar & Grill I was responsible for preparing food to be cooked by the line cooks and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen. I was responsible for keeping the dishes clean and ready for use by the cooks and servers. By keeping the back kitchen organized it helped the business to run more efficiently. I maintained good communication with my co-workers, so if a problem arose, we would be able to handle it. I was responsible for closing the kitchen at times, which involved making sure everything was prepared for the next day of work.

Truck Driver

Nov 2017 - Jun 2018
Systems Transport
As a truck driver for Systems Transport, I was responsible for securing loads to my 53' flatbed trailer, driving safely on the roadways of the United States, and adhering to all FMCSA regulations. I was responsible for pre-trip and post-trip inspections as well as making sure the truck was serviced properly. I was an over-the-road truck driver, which included being on the road for several weeks at a time and sleeping in a sleeper birth inside of my truck. As a truck driver I never had any accidents or tickets in my CMV and did not have any damages to my tractor or trailer. I maintained communication with customers, so if there was a problem with the load or it was going to be early or late, they were aware. Systems Transport operated in all the lower 48 states and I drove cross country when working with them.
