Hello! My name is Kim. I have been a caregiver for 30 years, having taken off time while my daughter was in high school. I have an extensive amount of experience ranging from cancers to dementias to end of life and so much more. I would be happy to share. I am also an advocate, friend and offer support for both the patient and family. The expectations and standards I set for myself are: 1) Dignity and respect 2) When I walk into someone's home, I'm walking into their world. I dont expect them to walk into mine. Its about them and their needs. 3) Everyone is an individual. Same diagnosis does not mean the same kind of care. My care is based on the individual and their wants and needs. 4) Patience and being a great listener. How else will I know what is needed and wanted. I have provided care for many people. My journey as a caregiver started over 16 years ago I have worked in many healthcare settings as well as home health. I've worked with all ages. Mostly the elderly. I have taken care of two terminal lost angels which is why I no longer extend my hospice services to children. I also no longer provide live in service as well due to personal reasons. So to tell you a little bit about my journey and how I became a caregiver starts with my mom being a compassionate loving nurse who taught me that giving sometimes is better than receiving. When my grandmother got ill with diabetes I took it upon myself to take care of her. The sense of fulfillment I felt helping her and other clients I took on encouraged me to take the next step and go for CNA classes. I took care of her for two years plus and After passing my Red Cross test, I am now a certified nurse assistant.
