Over 20 yrs experience caring for people of all ages and abilities. 5+ yrs as a CNA in PDX first working in a small facility for people w/ HIV/AIDS then onto temping at LTC Facilities all over PDX. 18 years working for UCP, OR w/ adults w/ CP & intellectual disabilities. 5+ yrs as an "Enhanced Worker" HCW doing in-home care for Aging & Disability Services. Now certified in WA as a HCA to work in-homes. Additional interests & education include: Cosmetology, Naturopathic Assistant & Juice Bar Manager. Study Yoga, Tai Chi Chuan & Meditation. In 2014 I started caregiving. It wasn't something I planned on doing or dreamed about. I was in need of a job and a friend introduced me to the position. I have loved it ever since. I love getting to know people and their life experiences. Everyday is something new. All the different care plans and people are exiting to me. This helps me learn something new regularly and keep things from being mundane.

Hi I am Heather I recently returned back to my favorite career. I took a break to start my farm and it is going very well. I raise AGH pigs along with chicken of various breeds. I now have enough free time to work as a caregiver again. I have worked in facilities and in home care. Home care is my favorite because clients are able to stay in their home. I've been in the healthcare field for about 16 years. I have experience with elder care and DD care. I have managed group homes and started my own in home care agency. I am very passionate about what I do as I feel I was put here on earth to make a positive impact for those I serve and care for. I feel that if I can somehow make someones life more enjoyable or bring a higher level to their quality of life then I have done my job. These are our parents, grandparents, friends and family who need quality care and I know when I am with them, they are receiving genuine love and care. I have been in this field for 23 years.. I absolutely love what I do. I take pride in the fact that I can help somebody stay healthy and happy with quality care, in their own home . I began my career in my teen years, taking care of my grandparents before their passings, and knew then, that this was my calling. The relationships and bonds I have been blessed to experience and be part of is unmatchable, being such a special part of someone's life is irreplaceable to me, and something I cherish. I started in the Health industry because I experienced a life changing accident while playing football. I was paralyzed for an hr. due to a C-3 spine injury. After all the care I went through I understood how important it was to have positive energy around you I've always been that person and I wanted to help others in that have experienced similar situations as me. I got certified as CNA in 2003. Primary care for a quadriplegic. This includes bathing, clothing, prepping meals, administering meds and transportation to a variety of health care appointments. Familiar with high-pressure medical environments. I've been a helper, solver, and the last resort of difficult decisions. Being the prime caregiver of quadriplegic takes compassion, people skills, the ability to adapt as a team player while making health care decisions to best support patient needs. Making decisions for the health of a disabled human is nothing to take lightly.

My name is Shawn Vauthier. I have been working a cair giver for 5 years now and I live it! Nothing more fulfilling than helping someone in need or just being there for someone to talk to.

I'm the only female child of my parents. In my country Nigeria, we believe very much in personal care of our aged relations. My care-giving experience started in 1985 in my country, (I was 21). My mom had a major surgery and couldn't care for her 89-year-old mother, so I moved from home to be with my grand mom in the village. I took care of all her till she passed on to glory at the age of 92. l also took care of my mom till she passed on at the age of 90. Here in the USA, I started full time 37.5 hours a week job as a caregiver at an Assisted Living facility in North East Portland OR for 12 months and l also worked as a Home Health Aide on part time for 6 months. I later went back to class for the Nursing Assistant program and later sat for the Oregon State Board of Nursing test and passed and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. Since then, I've worked as a full time and part time CNA at a Post Acute Rehab facilities across the state of Oregon . I went back to class again to get more skills in my career and presently l have my CNA 2.

Having patience, understanding and a good communicating skills are my good traits to be a successful caregiver. I like to become caregiver being in this position i can practice my passion to taking care and help them. I enjoyed because they will say thank you to you that they are satisfied to your job and they feel comfortable and safe.
