I became a caregiver because of my love for my grandmother. I helped my mother for years, care for her. It was the experience that made me live the happiest. To learn how to hear a discomfort, a fear, and to be taught through circumstances how to respond, was in itself rewarding. What I like about being a caregiver, is the quality time given to someone who is in need. The bond of appreciation becomes a mutual experience. One of my personal achievements has been to help people realize better of themselves. I once took care of a Parkinson's patient. (Rigid) She had lost her speech for ten (10) years, her body trapped in a set posture. She would cry in silence without being able to use her own hands to wipe the tears; compassion set in and I learned to communicate with her. I challenged myself to help her respond in a new way, not a sad way. In three (3) months, the patient said one (1) word to me that left me speechless. This was a private duty setting. I repeated the action in the presence of her husband and he cried with joy hugging his wife. Later on, it was discussed with me that they wanted to pay my studies to become their Physician Assistant. I felt so appreciated. I understand needs and I challenge myself in every situation to serve and to grow. I absolutely love life and try to make people gravitate to positive by inspiring and being dependable, be it with words or action. I am attentive and follow protocol. I respect everyone and prefer to be on the brighter side of any circumstance!
