What are your personality traits or expertise that help you be a great caregiver. I am currently a caregiver providing my services few hours a week. I would like to extend my services to other members of the senior community. I am patient and supportive. I have always enjoyed being around the elderly. I hope to be a geriatric nurse someday. With that being said, I will be starting the Licensed Practical Nursing program in the New Year. However, I will still be able to continue my job as a caregiver. What attracted you to being a caregiver? As a caregiver, tending to the needs of the elderly is fulfilling, especially knowing that I am needed, and I can contribute to their well-being. My dedication as a caregiver started back when I was in 8th grade. I took part in my school's community service by volunteering at a nursing home. It was there that I first worked with the elderly and enjoyed it. From there my passion for and dedication to taking care of the older population blossomed. What do you enjoy most about being a caregiver? In addition to being able to provide for their basic needs and activities of daily living, I genuinely enjoy being around older people. I love taking the time to listen to them and hear their life experiences. It gives me a perspective of what life was like back then, how their challenges, successes, and failures helped shape their lives. Additionally, the stories of the elderly give me another perspective of how people interacted without the use of cell phones, computers, and video games, just to name a few. The elderly are walking history textbooks. And I am fortunate enough to relish in their stories. What is a personal achievement you are proud of? A personal achievement I am proud of is finally being able to embark on my nursing career, my second career in the making. It was a quiet hope of mine to become a nurse and after some starts and stops, I am finally on my way starting in January of 2024
