Caregiving was something that fell into my lap but found that is was a true passion. I am a retail manager and I have a patience for my customers that comes naturally. My fiance became very ill with heart failure at 38. He was the first person I cared for I took on this challenge with a 100% commitment with that I had to take an early retirement from my management position. I realized this is what I was meant to do all along. Unfortunately he passed away .My heart and patience with my fiance made me realize I can do this for others and have been cargiving ever since. I am very proud and honored to be given the trust and responsibility to care for someones loved one. For them to know that they can feel at ease when in my care is essential. I am very proud of that. It's not just the day to day duties that are important its companionship. It's making the client feel they are truly cared for by their caregiver and that is not just a paycheck. It made me so happy to know my clients couldn't wait for me to come back from my days off the feeling is so amazing!!! There are a lot of caregivers out there but good caregivers are hard to find. Our elders and people of special needs need interaction, compassion, human contact, music, stimulation, conversation not just handing them medication and a plate of food. became a caregiver because i worked at hospitals and so many of the elderly patients when going home had no one to care for them at home. so i decided and go out in that field of in home care and have been doing it for the last 22 yrs. what i like about being a caregiver is the fact that you work one on one and get to know the clients needs very well and i am not in a time clock or just a number as to working in facilities. Personal achievement is that i get so involved with the family n the elderly that after a while they are like family to me and i like going extra miles in helping out and not just for the amount of pay. i live in Sun City, CA. and have been very proud of myself in helping out the elderly because at the end of the day its always very rewarding.
