I became a caregiver after taking care of both my grandmother and my grandfather at home since my family could not afford hospice. About four years ago my grandmother moved in with me and my family and I took care of her up until her last days. It was a challenge but I loved my grandmother very much and would have done anything for her. It was not long after, is say a couple of months or so that my grandfather became sick I went over to his house daily and took care of him I also often took him to his doctors appointments and ran errands for him. I was his caretaker up until his passing as well. I reflect on those days often as caretaker for both grandparents. It was a very special and rewarding experience for me and the reason I decided to get into the healthcare field and receive my chha certification and eventually my rn degree.
