My name is Brandy Roxas, I have been caring for people my whole life. I grew up in a small town and maybe that is just small town mentality we always take care of our own. However, I learned from a young age to care for our elderly, and our disabled. Believe it or not you are the story tellers of our future and deserve to be treated with respect. At 12 I helped my elderly neighbor who often had strokes. We could always tell because it was the only time she started to speak German. At 14 I helped a neighbor who had several kids and was a nurse. She got stuck on night shifts and needed the extra hand as her husband was over night and early mornings during some seasons a the local butcher. So I ensured their kids got off to school. Then at 15 I became a Certified Nurses aide. I worked at the local nursing home from then until I was 18. At that time I moved to the city went to college and met my husband. I have taken care of my grandmother who had dementia and fought depression. My mother who had the same and my son who has a rare auto immune disorder Wegener's granulomatosis. It is a rare vasculitis disease. I love to cook and I enjoy helping others and would like to get back to that full time as working through technology can be so impersonal. My youngest son was diagnosed at 15 and is now 20. So yes I have had to help with his recovery moving from wheel chair to car and to therapy appointments until he could walk again. He has had traches and medications ever since that even takes chemo meds. I am great at getting families on good medication schedules for these reasons and even understanding some insurance issues. But cooking and talking with others is definitely my passion. I enjoy most helping him and others to learn not to give up. There is so much to life. My personal achievement is being a mom. Gives you the most satisfaction in life. Though it is not always fun or rewarding. It comes to you in waves and that is what life is a big rollercoaster.
Caregivers that work non-full-time jobs or irregular shifts can negotiate extra compensation in addition to their standard hourly wage.
