Caregiving has been a part of my life since childhood. My grandfather had MS and visiting him in the nursing home and the joy of bringing him home for Christmas each year has left me with great memories. I was lucky enough to grow up with great grandparents as well and helping my mother and grandmother care for them initially in their own homes and eventually in grandma's home. I have great memories of spending time with great grandpa learning about gardening, housekeeping and how to shoot a sling shot. My great grandmother knew everything about sewing and flowers. I spent hours playing pretend games with my sisters in her green houses. I didn't realize until I went to college, that not everyone had this experience as a child, and I value these memories fondly.
