About Bernadette

Last year, I took a leap of faith and quit my 18 year career to pursue a second career in nursing. I always felt like something was missing from my life and decided that I wanted to spend the next 20 years helping people. I am currently a nursing student at NCC and I am really looking forward to the next chapter. During my studies, I would like work as a CNA or caregiver. This position will not only help me with my nursing studies but it will also help me become more comfortable with understanding patients and their needs. Ideally, I would like to work in a home environment a few days a week. I am available for doctor appts, light housekeeping and light cooking. I am also CNA certified. As an executive assistant at Morgan Stanley, I worked for the global head at this was a very demanding position. My managing director traveled weekly to different parts of the world so I always had to make sure that his hectic travel schedule was up to date. Sometimes I would stay late at work depending on what time zone he was in. Because he traveled so frequently, my Partner had thousands of dollars in expenses to submit weekly which was a major part of the job. I had to make sure expenses were submitted in a timely manner with zero mistakes. I dealt with high powered clients on a daily basis and always helped them out to the best of my ability. Making sure my Partners travel schedule and personal schedule was up to date was very important as well. I would often help his wife out with personal tasks when asked.

Guild For Exceptional Children
At the Guild, I worked at the Marano house in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Here, we had 10 clients who were all mentally challenged. Some were autistic and some had down's syndrome. At this home, I would cook dinner, make sure all their laundry was put away and there rooms were tidy and at night I would help the women shower and get ready for bed. I also worked on daily tasks with the clients and had to write detailed reports every evening on their mood and how their day was. This position often required me to sleepover which I often did to make sure the clients were up and ready, fed and put on the bus for work in the morning. I enjoyed this job. The clients I worked with always made me smile and showed me that as hard as life is, you can always get through it with a smile.
