I became a CNA/Caregiver because my grandmother was in a nursing home. I use to visit her everyday, while she was alive. I came in to visit her one evening and she had the same clothes from the evening before and a soiled brief. When I brought this to the aides attention, she proceeded to tell me they were short staffed and my grandma would have to wait. I ended up washing my grandmother, doing her hair, and feeding her. Two hours later the aide finally came in to care for my grandmother, she was surprised to see the work was already done. At that time I vowed to never let any elderly person regardless of who's family member, friend, or wife/husband it was if I could help it would never be treated in that manner again. I love being a caregiver because I give them a sense of comfort, and become more than just a caregiver, but a friend, companion, and most of all a second family. A personal achievement I am proud of is finally becoming a Certified Nursing Aide. I am a mother of three beautiful children. Two boys age 6 and 2, and a daughter age 8. I would love to write a book one day.
