About Penelope

I have always had a passion to help people. I originally wanted to be a nurse but changed my mind when I dropped Chemistry. This is a requiste course for nursing. But I still have the strong inclination to help others. About six years ago I had breast cancer. I was very fortunate, it was a very small, stage one lump, and the dr. removed it. I knew that I was not well informed about Cancer, so I joined Bosom Buddies. I have contributed and profited greatly by helping others. We have frequent events with speakers on Cancer. I answer the Bosom Buddy Hot Line twice a month. I have been a Legal Secretary for 15 years and my finger prints are on file. I took the TB test, negative. I have CPR, First Aide and AED certification. I love animals and have one cat and did have Collies. Hobbies: Bowling, Bridge, swimming and reading. Please do not think that if I take a Caregivers position with you or your loved one, that I will desert you if I get a real estate assignment. My primary interest is listing a home. It is not with working with buyers. When you list a home for sale, this is when our reduced commission takes place, the commission is only $990 if the Buyer for the home looks with the seller. I plan to write contracts and/or meet with the seller on the weekend or at night. It will not interrupt a caretaking job. If you have any questions about this, please just be direct and ask me.

friend - Rita Patterson
Rita and I both had breast Cancer. We attended a group called Bosom Buddies for Cancer Survivors. We had been lunch friends years ago and quickly got reacquainted. Rita lived on my way to the meeting place of Bosom Budddies and I got into the habit of picking her up for meetings. Rita had had chemo, I did not. She gradually developed dementia which got worse. I tried to get Rita to do things that were recommended for dementia patients. Rita refused. Rita's family was out of state. I spoke and e-mailed frequently with her sister. I took Rita to the library and tried to get her to read books and puzzles. She refused. Rita's sister asked me to find an assisted living home that Rita liked. I checked out many homes with Rita, she would say in advance that it looked good but once she visited the home she did not like it. At last she was put in a home. Rita was very unhappy in this large home. Rita's sister asked me to find her a small home which I did. Rita was not happy and was a difficult patient. Rita was not a good eater, she thought she was too heavy, she was very thin.

mother - Janice Blake
My mother had breast cancer. She fought it and was hospitalized for chemo treatments many times. Chemo is a horrible procedure. Because of my mother suffering through her many chemo treatments, when I got Cancer I refused chemo but the doctor told me my lump was so small that I did not need chemo. After 12 years she eventually died. She was in and out of the hospital. I was married, had 3 boys at home and worked as a legal secretary. My mother was very important to me and I did the best I could to spend time with her and to help her in any way I could. She was a lovely person and was very pleasant to be around. She learned to drive late in life. I occasionally took her to the hospital or to see a doctor but most of the time she drove her self as she did not want to be a burden. My mother was very happily married to my father. My father, James Blake died a few years before my mother. He had a stroke.

Aunt - Alice Blake
My Aunt Alice had Alzheimers which gradually got worse. She would repeat the same story or question over and over. She did retain her good humor. Aunt Alice had been active in her church and her dog club. She had three Sheltie dogs and took them on hikes. I worried that she was exerting herself but I did not stop her. Exercising her dogs made her happy. My aunt went on driving perhaps longer than she should. She did just drive locally to the grocery store, to see her doctors and to exercise. I helped by preparing meals for her and talking to her which took great patience. Aunt Alice had taught 8th grade here in Phoenix. Her home had a lovely fenced yard which was nice for her dogs. We spent many happy times out on the back yard patio.
