I enjoy being a caregiver. I never thought about being a caregiver until my own mother developed dementia. It was then that I realized how rewarding it could be for myself. I am a very caring, loving person even towards people who I don't know. I find it very easy to assist someone who needs help, someone who isn't able to perform simple daily activities. I assisted my neighbor who was diagnosed with lung cancer, by taking her to her radiation treatments, encouraging her to follow her medication regimen and trying to cheer her up when she isn't having a good day. It's really very easy to assist people w hen they have lost the ability to do everyday things. I always remember to put myself in the other persons place and treat them as I would want to be treated. ... more

My mother

Dec 2006 - May 2015

My elderly mother was developing dementia and became unable to control her type 2 diabetes at age 85. I moved in with her for a little over a year to be a companion. This included taking care of the household, food shopping, Dr appts, cleaning house, laundry, medication management, preparing meals, etc. this was not a paying job, as it was caring for my mother.

Oct 2014 - Feb 2015

Neighbor/friend needed assistance going to Dr. appts and radiation treatments for lung cancer. She also help with taking her medication and normal daily household chores. This was done, "as a good friend,"no money exchanged.
