I love being around the elders. My grandparents raised me until I was married. I grew up appreciating the spunk, wit, and mostly, the wisdom that the older generation have. I see many of them mistreated, and left alone because the younger generations think they are weird. They have helped helped their younger generations, now it's time to help them. I fell in love with the idea of becoming a full time caregiver, because I was one when I was only 11 years old. My great grandmother had lost her husband, and couldn't take care of herself anymore. They get lonely. One of the things I enjoy most about having been a caregiver before is developing a companionship! The older generation have so many stories to tell, and there is so much to learn from. Plus, when they feel lonely, I want to be able to encourage them, and let them know that they are loved. One of the achievements that I am grateful for accomplishing is helping while giving them their independence. Mostly with dressing and bathing. That is my main goal, to care for them while they still have the feeling of independence and dignity.
