I enjoy being a caregiver because the year I started being a caregiver was in 2018 and the first day I started I knew right there at my first job was full time and I bonded over time with the individuals that I served. What attracted me being a caregiver was when I applied at Midwest health services and I wanted to try something different because before that I was a cashier at Kroger for a total of 19 years. After I started being a caregiver and as I learned about each individual by talking with them and taking them out in the community and we both did things together and right then and there I discovered that being a caregiver is my niche in life. I really do enjoy being a caregiver because I like to help my clients to live a better life and I always want to do things with them that they enjoy so they feel more independent. The personal achievement that I got at my first job being a caregiver they promoted me to a team leader and they made me full time at the house that had 3 individuals in it which was a honor because each day I learned more about my clients wants and needs and I strive to meet their goals in life.

I'm a full time caregiver that works in a dementia facility with seniors. I would toilet them and give them showers as needed. I would transfer the seniors when going to the bathroom or to bed. I would do activities with all the seniors. I would monitor all the seniors when they all would come out to watch tv on the big screen. When their meals came for breakfast, lunch and dinner I would give them two choices if different meals and they would choose one. I would clean up the dining room and I completed the dishes and the laundry after every meal. The nurse would come in and they did their meds. We would page the nurse if there were any problems with the seniors.

There was one individual that I took care of which the individual was very shy at first but the more we talked with one another we built on our relationship. We would go fishing which the individual really enjoyed. The individual didn't take any medication. I was cross trained to work in different jobs in different counties. I cooked and clean their individuals apartment and we both completed the laundry.

There was one individual and the individual lived and rented his own house and we did things out in the community and we listened to music as I drove him around and he really enjoyed that. I would cook and clean their house house and the individual would assist me with laundry and sometimes other tasks. The individual self administered his own medication.

My job duties entails taking the individuals to the bathroom and cooking and cleaning their house and I enjoyed cooking for them and I thought the individuals how to cook and they helped me to clean their house and they build on each task which they gained more and more independence. I also taught my clients how to do each step at each duty in the house and they actually enjoyed doing things that I've taught them which gained their independence. I was med certified and I would complete each individuals medication using the medication administration record to give each individuals medication one at a time to avoid any medication errors. I also was a certified driver for the house that I was assigned at and once we all took a trip to mirtle beach and we all had a blast.
