MY PARENTS HAD ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES AS I WAS GROWING UP. I ENJOYED HELPING THE SENIORS WITH PUZZLES AND CRAFTS, ETC. LATER I BECAME A TEACHER WHO TAUGHT HIGH SCHOOL, COLLEGE AND SEMINARY FOR OVER 15 YEARS. AT THAT POINT, I RETIRED FROM TEACHING AND OPENED TWO ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES OF MY OWN. ONE WAS NAMED E.T. SLOAN HOME, WHERE TODDLERS WERE INCORPORATED TO THE DAILY ACTIVITIES OF THE ELDERS, THUS E. FOR ELDER AND T. FOR TODDLER. E.T. SLOAN HOME AND SLOAN HOME II. I WAS THE ADMINISTRATOR, COOK, CLEANER, APPOINTMENT SETTER, COMPANION, SINGER/PIANO PLAYER, DEVOTIONAL LEADER, ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR, ETC. I ENJOYED EVERY SECOND UNTIL MY MOTHER DIED AND IN 2008, I SOLD THE BUSINESSES. MY RESIDENTS WERE ALLOWED TO "AGE IN PLACE", SO THEY USUALLY REMAINED THERE UNTIL THEY CHANGED THEIR ADDRESSES TO HEAVEN. WHEN THAT TIME CAME, I WOULD GET MY BLANKET AND PILLOW AND STAY WITH THEM, SINGING THEIR FAVORITE SONG AS THEY PEACEFULLY PASSED ON. ONE LADY, VIRGINIA LIVED IN E.T. SLOAN HOME FOR 14 YEARS. I USED TO SING IN HOTELS AT/AROUND DISNEY AND HAD A LOT OF FANCY GOWNS, DRESSES AND HATS. I WOULD DRESS THE LADIES IN MY GOWNS AND HATS, RENT A LIMOUSINE AND WE WOULD GO OUT ON THE TOWN DINING AND DANCING. I SERVED ORGANIC FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AND THE FINEST MEATS, POULTRY AND FISH, BELIEVING THAT AROUND THE TABLE WAS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO CELEBRATE LIFE. I MISS CAREGIVING.
