My interest in the medical field is one that started as a "spur of the moment," decision, on the surface. I left college prior to graduation because suddenly I realized I didn't want to continue on the path I was, and I didn't know where to go. I needed a job, and a retirement home in Sherwood was hiring. The more time I've spent in this field has made me more aware that this is the environment I'm meant to work in, and this is the life I am meant to be living. In 2007 my great-grandparents were living in their home in Portland, OR., seemingly under the care of two distant relatives. Soon my family discovered that these relatives were drug addicts and taking advantage of my grandparents financially, both of whom had dementia. My Grandfather had become thin and frail very rapidly, and my Grandmother wasn't too far behind him. We knew we had to act fast to get them the proper care and help that they needed. During all of this, I witnessed things I never knew people were capable of, and ultimately, it led me to where I am now, even though I didn't fully realize it until June of 2014 when I started working at my first caregiving job. In July of 2017, I got married to a man who demanded I leave this field of work because he didn't like the hours, among other various demands throughout the course of our marriage. In January of 2019 we welcomed a healthy baby boy, and by February of this year we finally divorced from one another. Leaving him opened my life again and I decided to work at a retirement home in Dallas, OR. Immediately upon starting there, I knew that I would never leave this field again, I only wish to continue pushing forward. This is why I do this, it's something I have wanted to do, and felt like I was meant to do for quite some time now, and now that I am a mother of a little boy, I want to become something he can be proud of me for as well as having pride in myself.
