I am prior military. While attending grossmont college, I was the president of the student veterans organization. I thought it would be a great ideal back in 2008 to have our veterans go into the community and help in assisted living facilities and skilled nursing facilities. After seeing how short staffed, over worked, under paid, and how these patients felt, I know I needed to help. My children and I would paint nails, do hair, play bingo, assist in sporting events like the Kentucky Derby, with stick horses, play music, feed during the holidays, make mobiles for patients that could not get out of bed, and provide comfort for so many people that do not have family or friends to visit them.

I believe what makes me a great caregiver is that I always go the extra not just one mile but two miles just to make any client happy meaning making sure they're needs are always being met from the smallest task to a task that's challenging for them to do that they used to do. I am a happy person, have a genuine heart, trustworthy, punctual, honest, great listener, responsible, reliable, and I am a maximize. I am a self-starter if I know what's expected. I will always do things that the clients tell me I don't have to. I have the compassion, understanding; having the patience make a difference in your interaction with the client because they can feel a caregivers energy, and I personally always put out positive energy despite what mood the client may be in. You can always turn a negative interaction into a positive one just by being understanding and empathetic towards their situation. I would also make an awesome caregiver because I always put myself in their situation. I became a caregiver because I love helping the elderly and I have a compassionate heart towards them. Giving back to the elderly community due to understanding that as people age things become more challenging when it comes to getting things done, I want to make it easier on the clients that may not always have someone to assist them and make it a little easier for them to accomplish a task. Also, clients have may not someone to talk to and or eat with, etc.. and they just want a companionship, and I can be that companion for them. What I like about being a caregiver is that the clients are sweet, funny, have a sense of humor, the clients families are supportive and helpful, I like building that report with them. A personal achievement I am proud of is when a client request me and misses me when I am not there; this tells me I have built that report and I've made a positive impact on that client.

The main reason I became a caregiver is because I want to make a difference in someone's life. I also just enjoy working with people and taking care of and assisting those who may have difficulty with certain activities. I am a caring, compassionate, trustworthy person who really enjoys helping others. I also pay attention to details and I'm very patient, I understand that sometimes there may be changes in plans and that things may not go as quickly as planned. A personal achievement that I am proud of is that I was able to become certified as a nursing assistant and as a home health aid, while working part time and going to school full time.

I enjoy helping seniors to drive, to do errands, to fix simple meals, to do whatever they need to have done. I like seniors because they have lived, raised children, have great advice, and still want to have fun. I like singing, walking, I think I have an upbeat personality. I enjoy helping all people have the maximum fun in life, as well as helping them in their work life as well if I can but mainly to have a great fun life, get the most enjoyment they possibly can out of life.

I became a Caregiver due to taking care of my father at the age of 12 years old. I learned to start and regulate an IV drip and I administered insulin shots to my father. When my father health declined due to complications of Diabetes, my family and I had to place him in a skilled facility. My mother was concerned for my fathers safety and daily care, she asked me to apply for a job in the facility my father would be in. I did get a position at the facility and have been working in nursing every since!!! I like being a Care Provider because it is apart of my spirit and I am very people oriented. My personal achievement is to have been in the field of nursing for 16 years. The one thing that I can tell you about myself is I go above and beyond the expectations of what is asked of me and when I am providing care for someone, the client is my priority and has my undivided attention.
