I believe I am a good caregiver because I have a deep understanding and appreciation for what it's like to go from being independent and taking care of oneself 100% of the time, to needing help with the most basic of necessities. In my role as a caregiver, I have an opportunity to help someone get the best of care at all times. I believe we are all deserving of receiving care from a caregiver that is, empathic and compassionate, patient, reliable, trustworthy. Overall, a caregiver that has a natural tendency to want and enjoy helping people and I believe these are attributes that I possess. My desire to become a caregiver is rooted in my experience with my father who battled cancer for five years. I ultimately became his caregiver and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. What I enjoyed or like the most about being a caregiver is helping people and making a positive difference in a client's life. I would have to say balancing caring for my terminally ill dad and caring for my own family and working a fulltime job. Just being able put my own needs aside and making adjustments to my life and caring for my dad 100%.
