I became a caregiver because I realized there were people in the community who were seriously ill and abandoned in nursing homes and needed help. It was something that I needed to be orientated to and trained for by the state. I worked for 4 years gaining experience in nursing home facilities. However, I enjoy being a traveling personal assistant and visiting people in their homes now. I think it is more personable and we are able to develop relationships with our clients. We can be as creative as we want with our time together. The emotional rewards of caregiving are truly amazing.
