I've been a caregiver for 35 yrs. I started in this field when I was just 17. I love what I do. I come from a medical family and decided at a very young age that I wanted to be a doctor or nurse. I specialize in geriatric dementia and Alzheimers care. Every client needs to know they're truly cared for on every level with love, patience, and kindness. I enjoy learning from them ... they often have amazing histories, stories and lessons to share.I'm often with my clients for the duration of their lives.

I enjoy providing companionship and outmost care to every person I am with. I have also a great deal of medical experience. I am proficient in basic skills: personal hygiene like showers/bath, oral care, toileting, back-rub, dressing; Assists in activities of daily living such as serving & feeding, ambulating, positioning, transferring, administer meds & nutritional supplements, dressings surgical prep; Do & record vital sign: blood pressure, weight, pulse, temperature, finger pricking for sugar levels in diabetics; Measure & record food & liquid intake, urinary & fecal output and report changes. Encourage patient to exercise. Review & ask dietary restrictions, preferences, & allergies. Change bed linens, replace trash bags. Always check expiration of food & medicines. Know vital information about patient's condition, treatment plan & any suggested activity.. In a capsule, it is very important to respond immediately to patient's call for assistance and/or treatment with the goal of creating a safe, effective environment to make a difference in the lives of the patient & their families. Patience is a virtue inherent in me. I always work above & beyond my duty for the comfort & safety of my patients. I would be very glad to be of service as I have an extensive experience in the medical field.

I have a flexible personality, I adapt as much as I can to the needs of the patients. I do work with the families and I walk with them in the acceptance of caring for an elder member of the family. I'm very diligent with my work and I strive to be better at every opportunity I come across. I enjoy helping others and I'm proud of knowing that the impact I made in people's life is in a positive way. I look forward to always learn something new and my continue growth in this career.

The reason for becoming a caregiver is that I wanted more 1 to 1 interactions with patients being that working at the hospital patients come and go and it's extremely difficult to build relationships. I have since taken care of a patient (hired privately) for 3 years and she has now passed. I am looking to care for someone wholeheartedly & willing to build relationships with the family as well in order to achieve the best quality of life to those in need.

I've been in the nursing field since 1980 Convalescent Home Acute Care setting Mental Health and In home care But it became a passion when I started caring for my 95 year old great grandmother in the south just the passion in caring for someone who need it make my heart and soul feel worthy.

Being able to make a difference in a person's life that feels like they have no one or that they are alone the joy I see on their faces good and bad but the overall is knowing that someone is there. I believe what makes me a great caregiver is that I take care of all my patients as if they were my own family and make sure they are comfortable and most importantly I listen to their needs. I first became interested in health care when my mother was ill and needed care herself and realized that I had a real passion for helping others. I enjoy knowing that the family can be at ease knowing I'm there taking care of their loved ones. At Long Beach Memorial I was know as the "sitter whisper" because whenever they had a difficult patient they would alway assign me that patient and by the end of the day the patient would no longer require restraints or was completely compliant and friendly. They always ask what was my secret and I would say I simply listen to what their needs are.

I became a caregiver 26 years ago because I have a soft spot for the elderly and I enjoy helping and caring for the aging population. What I enjoy best being a caregiver is, I get to learn a lot from my elderly clients life experiences! I enjoy conversation with them, lending a helping hand, and a listening ear. All while providing genuine companionship.

I come from a family of healthcare workers from CNAs to Doctors. When I was younger, I volunteered at the local shelter. People had a lot of issues, and I'd help them with almost anything they'd need. I've been hooked on helping people since. It's extremely rewarding to help someone.
