I began my caregiving career as a skilled CNA in a nursing home at the Care Center in Oakdale. Once I perfected my skills and with the proper work-methods, I resumed my work ethics at Oak Valley Hospital in the Rehabilitation Center; and was promoted by The Director of Nursing to a RNA position ( Restorative Nursing Assistant) working directly with professionals such as PT, PTA, Speech Specialists, RNs and Doctors. It was my absolute pleasure to see my patients regain their health and return home to loved ones. With my acquired experience and knowledge, great compassion and kindness, I became an independent caregiver and have worked as a private caregiver for over 20 yrs. I love what I do. I have met many wonderful clients and family loved ones; and graciously, I have received many letters of recognition. I started out as a CNA when I was 16 years old in a convalescent home, I was in the Army from 1975 to 1978. I used the GI Bill to become an LVN. I've worked in LTC, rehabilitation and acute care settings. you name it I've probably done it. My father was a minister and my Mom always wanted to be a nurse, however she kept busy being a ministers wife, I took care of both of them in their last days. I now prefer to take care of people in their homes, which I believe is the ideal setting and much less stressful.

Hello, I'm Laura 32 years old and I have been a nursing assistant for about 10 years. Unfortunately, I have allowed my certification to lapse but will hopefully be able to reinstate it some time in the near future. I have worked in long-term care and hospital settings. I also started working with in home support service clients at 16 with my mother and started working as a nanny at 18 and have worked with clients from 9 days old to 99 years old. I am very comfortable working in different settings and with a variety of personalities. I have impeccable references and usually only work for clients that have been referred to me by former clients however I am trying to expand my horizons and try something new. I have worked with patients in a facility as well as at home who have g-tubes, foley and straight catheters, and colostomy bags. Having been a caregiver to my late Mother for many years, and often, around the clock, I know all that this rewarding experience involved, but also how critical it was to have time to myself in order to decompress and re-charge. So, one of my goals as a caregiver is to give much-needed respite to loved ones. However, because I purely enjoy meeting the needs of others, particularly seniors and the disabled, this is a perfect career choice in which to do this. But thanks in large part to my Mom, I am also a conscientious, compassionate, honest and trustworthy, well-organized and detail-oriented woman (who loves to laugh!). And last but not least, I have an extremely *positive* outlook on things. I am proud of a few things in my role as a caregiver to my Mom, but one of those that I am most proud of would be: She was taken to the ER and hospitalized 14 times in the last 9 months of her life; and I was by her side through it all, advocating very strongly on her behalf all along the way. In her final stage, when hospice came in, I was the first person to convince both them and our medical provider to keep my Mom on all of her 12 medications throughout hospice's care. This resulted in extending her life - so we got to spend more time together during these precious last weeks. It is my true intention and desire to care for all my clients with the same quality of care and attention that I gave my Mom, granting, of course, that I strictly follow the families' guidelines.
