What makes me a great care giver is that I really care for the person that I am taking care of. I love what I do. I became a CNA because I wanted to take care of my grandmother and that's how I got into the business of becoming a CNA I had been doing CNA work for 15 years and I have been a dialysis tech for 3 years but I still work as a care giver.

I am someone who grew up seeing my family lend a hand. Growing up my parents had a foster home, so we had lots of kids going in and out and some became permanent family. I think that started my love to take care of people. Also the inevitable, you grow up and in turn, the people around you grow old too. I visited nursing homes and saw the way they were treated and it wasn't always well. I loved babies growing up as well, was the family babysitters for years, until I could get a real job of course. You know they say that some people are meant to be nurses/caregivers. Because it's not meant for everyone. I genuinely love being of use to someone, to help, to see the gratitude people give when you're helping them or just being nice in general. I think being a caregiver has taught me life lessons. Being patient, and kind, and stop to say hello, ask how someone's day was, have small talk, just be humble and a genuinely good person. I've learned time management, multitasking, just how quick you can get attached to someone you never know before, and the power of helping others!

When my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer, he became my first person to care for. I learned patience and empathy. I enjoy spending time with seniors and listening to their life history. After my husband died, my daughter started having seizures. I've been caring for her for 20 years. After my Dad died from pancreatic cancer, who I helped care for, my Mom moved in with me. I took care of her for 12 years, until she died from a massive stroke 2 years ago. Taking care of her and making sure she enjoyed life till the end is something I'm proud of. I know a lot of people don't have family to care for them, and I am happy when I can help them. I love to fish, horseback riding and traveling. I love all animals.
