My family and I took alot of time to care for her in the comfort of her own home until she departed in 2009. I knew that i wanted to be a caregiver because caring for people is my life I enjoy being able to put others and meet their needs before my own. Being a caregiver was not always easy and through out the years I have learned to be compassionate, caring, loving and also very giving. I was a caregiver to a quadriplegic professor when I was in college to help pay for my tuition. After college, I continued doing private care on the side for some Alzheimer patients at a nursing home. In 2004, I enrolled at a nursing school for a year and a half. I did not finish my degree, but I did receive my certification as a CNA and as a Medication Technician. I keep up to date with the newest discoveries and findings in the world of medicine. Even though I have not had any new medical training, I am current on my knowledge of diseases, medications and side effects of such medications. For instance, I am aware that when you care for an Alzheimer's patient, you step into his/her world, and not insist that he/she conforms to your expectations of what is real. I am compassionate and capable. All of the kids are either all grown or almost grown, but I still have this vast need to nurture. My husband refuses to be smothered, so, I need to go out of the house and find someone else who would appreciate being cared for :-) My kids are my biggest accomplishment. The eldest is going to medical school this summer, and the middle one is attending UMKC in August. The youngest one is doing great as a Sophomore while giving out just enough sass to maintain her teenage status.

Skills & Certifications: Orthopedic Care, Blood Disorders, Renal and Urological Disorders, Tracheotomy / Ventilation, Vision and Eye Disorders, Post Surgery Recovery, Stroke, Skin Disorders, Respiratory Disorders, Parkinson's Disease, Palliative Care, Multiple Sclerosis, Neurological Disorders, Hospice Care, Home Health Care, Hearing Disorders, Gastrointestinal Disorders, Diabetes, Depression, Dementia, COPD, Cardiovascular Disorders, Cancer Recovery, Arthritis, ALS, Alzheimer's Disease

I am a 41 year old female. I have 4 children. My youngest was born in 2002 and was my inspiration for becoming a caregiver. He was born with a couple of syndromes and lots of medical challenges. This I became very good at taking care of him. Was a natural caretaker when I was growing up as I was told from family members and friends. This situation made me want to become a professional caregiver and has allowed me to be able to see some of the most common medical equipment and machinery that is used these days. It has tought me a lot.

I am a happy and funny person, upbeat, like to sing. I am sensitive and listen well. I can usually come up with good ideas on making something easier to do or more efficient. I'm gentle. What attracted me to home care was all my family and friends telling me how good I would be at it. So tried it with a part time help with a lady with dementia/alzheimer's, her daughter saw how great I was with her mother and hired me full time. From there I learned so much. She would get confused sometimes angry even sad, we worked together to figure it out, her and I . That's where compassion and patience comes in. I Started taking care of a child w/cerebral palsy part time as well. What I enjoy about being a caregiver is knowing I'm helping someone's life to be a little easier, keeping them comfortable and hopefully a little laughter and a smile is really great. Knowing I have made a difference means a great deal. I have had many great achievements in this line of work. One of them was when a client was starting to have a stroke, I caught it quickly and my training from several weeks back with the Red Cross on Abuse and Neglect, First Aid and CPR came rushing back and I just went into action. Once the ambulance was there and one of the other employees told them all I did, They said I did everything right! I did a good job! Wow,that felt great and was thankful I somehow remembered all I had learned. I didn't even realize what I had done till I heard them saying it, but most of all, she(my client) was ok. I have worked with 6-7 different senior's and 3 young adults within last ten years. I have gone through drug screening and willing to again for any client your cost. That sums up some of me,any questions let me know.
