Years ago I left the healthcare workforce to care for my parents as they aged at home. Word spread among family and friends and my life as an in-home caregiver began. The most frequent requests I receive are for transportation, light housework and meal preparation, medication reminders, assistance and observation, and cheerful companship. A benefit of maturity is that I recognize the frustration of losing independence, and the importance of staying patient, kind and calm when someone is in physical or emotional pain or feels vulnerable.
