I was 15 years old and just started my freshman year of high school when I was placed in a class called Intergenerational Studies. For 2 hours each day I was taken to the nursing home called Golden Years there in Elgin, Tx. I started off just getting residents from their rooms to come and do activities with me. But it wasn't long and I was working side by side with CNAs, RNs, and at one point the DON had me shadow her for 2 weeks. I just got really interested and a few years after graduation and having my son, I pursued a CNA certification and was assigned the hospice hall and the "lockdown unit" which was occupied by the more violent patients and those with conditions such as Alzheimer's and/or parkinson's, as well as those with behavioral health conditions. I honestly just fell in love with everything about caring for the elderly. Even the hard and very emotional side of the care I provide is something I wouldn't want to stop doing. I would love to get my CNA back but just haven't attempted to do so since my husband passed in 2011. Since my high school days I have worked with all ages of people, from a 2 year old little princess to a 98 year old gentleman I referred to as Fred Astaire due to them looking like twins. He loved it and would smile so big when I walked in every day; and every day he would say "Good morning Ms. Judy (Garland). You feel like dancing the day away?" It's things like that for which I love my work. Please feel free to ask anything, I would love to tell everything now but there is just so much I've been blessed to have experienced with so many different people I'd never be done.

I have a caring, nurturing nature, soft spoken and compassionate. I don't rush my clients and have a great relationship with them. I am requested to return regularly. Working in a cancer hospital my whole career, I am very good at taking care of and anticipating the needs of my clients, but also filling the void of loneliness that many of the elderly/ill clients experience. I was honored with Employee of the Year in 2019 at my previous employment.

Home health to me is so much more than just a job. Its the ability to help people, lighten their families stress, new friendships, and to bring a little joy to them. I got started helping my G. Aunt, who was a home nurse, when I was younger with our own family ailments. My uncle an Gma both had a long fight with cancer; My father had multiple sclerosis; my mom a diabetic/work aholic with heart issues; and I also learned all about dementia an Alzheimer's first hand from caring for my G. Gma. Understanding what the patient is actually going through is essential, but Understanding the hardships the family goes through caring for a loved one is a important key in there loved ones care. Number one rule an my most important one is I always care for a client as if I were caring for my own family. I treat clients and patients as I wish to be treated, honesty, patience, and respect. After graduating high school I worked for hospice care for 2 years before taking a much needed break, (it hurt to much when it was there time to move on). Almost 6 years ago I went back to the same company but chose home health care instead . I worked with them 3 years as a special attendant. The rules became a headache to keep up with their contestant changing so I decided to go elsewhere. My current employer I have been with for almost 3 years. I am a hard worker and I learn fast. I have experience with most medical equipment including: hoyer lift -auto/manual, catheters/cholostomy bags, blood pressure cuffs/pulse ox/thermometers, oxygen machine and portable oxygen bottles, walkers and wheelchairs/electric scooters , bed alarms and hospital beds, etc. I do document visits with clients so families will be able to refer to book for any questions or concerns they may have about any shift, past or current.

I am a Great Caregiver because I put the Clients needs before my needs. My main Priority is making sure my client is Taken care with High quality care and is Happy and comfortable. I became a Caregiver because I have a big heart and I really care about helping People. I enjoy going to bed at night knowing I made my Client smile and met their personal needs to keep them going.

Just recently I have cared for my mother aiding her through her stages of Dementia and hospice care. I have worked 5 years as an Assistant Manager for an independent Senior Living Facility here in New Braunfels and am currently working as an independent through Carelinx . My experience is broad. I care deeply for seniors and get along well with everyone. I am empathetic to making sure they enjoy their final days compassionately, peacefully and within their own home. Hi my name is Raquel a little bit about me im honest, trustworthy dependable, and love helping people or animals. I've been a CNA for 17 years and worked in nursing homes majority of the time and have done home health on and and off as well as private care and home care. I have experience with Alzheimer's/dementia and find that i can work really well with them. Some days are better than others and thats ok because theyre just as confused than they have ever been just trying to understand whats going on in that point of time. My personality traits that make me a great caregiver are that I am kind, understanding, and patient. My attraction to caregiving is being able to help someone who can not help themself. The thing I enjoy most about caregiving is that I'm able to to feel better about what I've done and who I am and get paid for it. Oddly enough my greatest personal achievement has not come to pass. I'm working on it every single day--I'm always striving to be a better me.

I am an EMT and have always loved taking care of people especially the elderly. I took care of my mother who had ALZ in a facility until she passed from Covid. I especially love taking care of end-of-life patients.
