I am a retired nurse with experience in geriatrics, pediatrics, mental health, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and dementia. I am certified in many areas of nursing and fluent with many medical equipments including oxygen. I am very out going and love to laugh, cook, do laundry(yes, really!), And I take pride in my work.

I cared for my mother and aunt while their end stage life with lung cancer and aunt with breast cancer and schizophrenia. I have 2 autistic sons and have cared for them and received care while in their youth. I have experience in caring for the elderly, hospice patients, dementia. I enjoy caring for patients, and making their day better as their days are limited. When hearing their stories of their growing up or experiencing one appreciates their life experiences and history.

What I believe that makes me a good caregiver is the fact that I truly believe that whatever we do in life, it will come back to us, therefore if I treat someone with love, kindness, and respect, I will receive the same when it is my turn to receive the same care. When I first became a CNA I enjoyed the interaction I had with my patients. Then I later realized how great is the need for the elderly to receive care, and sadly not many people are interested in this type of job. So I decided to educate myself in medical related issues pertaining to the elderly care. One thing that I'm most proud is that I used my skills to personally care for my own mother, as well as my mother in law before they passed away.

Being a caregiver truly isn't for everyone, as for me I have to say I love what I do! I am very compassionate and caregiving has truly been a job that allows me to just simply be ME. I have worked in different personal care capacities for about five years now. I worked with students with disabilities for Northside ISD for many years. For a few years now, I've immersed myself in the seniors care field and have devoted my work to assist the families of: a WWII 94yr old veteran with dementia and blindness, a 63 yr old retired DEA agent with Parkinson's symptoms, a charming southern lady with fall risks, an army veteran with Alzheimer's, and a former Texas cowboy with post-traumatic brain injury. I'm well versed in providing many services required in at-home caregiving. I have helped with everything from mobility, light housekeeping/meal prep, meds mngmnt, and bathing to companionship, bathing, wound care, and physical/occupational/speech therapy exercises. My experience has been primarily with seniors living in assisted living facilities and their private homes. Through various home health agencies I ve also learned many restorative exercises and how to use medical equipment. Hello, My name is Krysten Williams, and I have a passion for the geriatric population as I am in my second year of my doctoral program in occupational therapy (OT) at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. After I graduate in May of 2023, I plan on working in a skilled nursing facility or inpatient rehab setting because I have a passion for serving this population. My doctoral program as well as work and volunteer experiences have prepared me to be the best candidate for this job opportunity. Furthermore, I have obtained over 200 clinical hours from combined patient care through shadowing and working with occupational therapists in various settings such as a SNF, hospital, outpatient setting, and home health setting. I currently care for a lady living with dementia and have worked in two assisted living homes during my time in undergrad. Furthermore, my experience working as a rehab therapy tech at CHI St. Joseph Health provided a unique experience for me as I assisted both physical and occupational therapists in providing therapy to the geriatric population. My courses in school have focused on the geriatric population this past year through numerous geriatric courses in adult biomechanics, neuroscience, and mental health. I am a very welcoming and encouraging person as I enjoy meeting knew people and learning what interests each patient. I know that I would be able to engage my assigned client in meaningful conversations based on their interests because I am passionate about providing care for this population. I am also very organized and very diligent when completing a given task at hand.
