I have been a care giver on and off since my senior year in high school which totals 34 years. I love being a caregiver and the rewarding benefit of seeing the individuals improve. I remember working in a nursing facility and the other attendants couldn't get a gentlemen to eat on his own and before I left i had him eating on his own which made me so happy because he was literally on the verge of getting a feeding tube.

I have good personality and interpersonal traits, my expertise range from the basis of love care and support which i have done for many years in Cape Town South Africa. I was mainly attracted to become a care giver when i saw the need from seniors in South Africa who lived on their own and have to go on their own to the super market to buy food in dangerous areas where they can be mugged and have their money taken from them. I enjoy socializing with the seniors, listening to their past experiences and also learning from their sickness or illness be it diabetics or any other disease, i love learning more on how best they love to be treated. I cared for my late mother in-law who had diabetics and i enjoyed every minute of helping her to manage her sugar levels and monitoring and record keeping of all the readings. I am proud of the fact that i had this quality time to be a care giver in my home to my mother as well as to my mother in-law. I have also cared for Senator Jack Edward Jones in Harare Zimbabwe at the age of 18, i had the love to care for seniors. He had been mugged and tripped on his hip bone and underwent surgery, upon discharge from the hospital, i personally managed the care at home until he could get out of bed. I did bed baths and i loved it because i knew he cant do it for himself, then who else if i was present in the home, it had to be me.

I have been a caregiver since I was 15 years old. I took care of my grandmother as she went through radiation and chemotherapy for liver and colon cancer. I took care of the housework and was responsible for cleaning her colostomy 3 times a day. I cared for her husband who also had dementia and alzheimers. As I grew up, i then cared for my mother who had non-hodgkin's b-cell lymphoma of the brain which affected her mental abilities. I cared for my aunt who developed lung cancer and had to undergo treatment as well. I cared for mybuncle who suffered PTSD, emphysema, copd, and diabetes. I have a step daughter with mental disabilities as well as neurological issues and epilepsy. I have been a caregiver most of my life and has been something I have felt comfortable with no matter how hard times have seemed. I am now 38 years old and have been doing this over half my life. Helping others is something that has given me fulfillment in my life.

What got me into the health filed was I use to work in a facility in dining I had became so close to a lot of the patients that I was serving and it made me want to do more with the elderly. That's when I decided to go back to school for my CNA'S and I love the decision that I have made .
