I began my fascination with healthcare as a child. I would polish my grandmother's white nursing shoes for her in the mornings as she was getting ready for work. She worked as a CNA at a nursing home in Lexington, VA. I remember looking at her and thinking I want to be just like her when I grow up. So as an adult I received my LPN and worked 18 years in Critical Care roles as well as skilled nursing home units in Roanoke and Martinsville to honor her memory. I've spent most of my life taking care of people because that is my passion and what I'm most proud of.

I have compassion for patients and perform the duties of the job to the best of my ability.

Hi I'm Nancy and I love taking care of people in their homes. I love spending time with them as I get to know them. I have over 15 years experience in the caregiving field with skills ranging from housekeeping, meal prep to taking blood pressures and blood sugar levels. I became a caregiver because my mother had entered into the medical field as I was growing up and listening to her talk about how she enjoys helping others. I decided that I should give it a try when it was my time to choose a profession. Once I got into the field at nineteen years old, I fell in love with being a caregiver and I have since then within my seven years of experience prided myself on making sure I give the best care to each and every patient I've had the pleasure to care for. What makes me a good caregiver is that I go above and beyond to please the patients I am caring for and I do my absolute best to make them feel comfortable as well as just enjoying being a wonderful companionship. Being a caregiver for me is rewarding to know when I've put a smile on each persons face and family by just coming in with the willingness to meet their expectations. I am proud knowing that I've been able to see each person through while making every day as pleasant as possible while in their need of care.

*Patience. Those who provide home care to others need to be patient. Being patient means that the person understands that there may be changes in plans, things may not go as quickly as planned, and there may be a little hesitation at times on the part of the person receiving care. *Compassion. When someone has compassion for another they have an understanding of what the person is going through. *Attentiveness. It is important when providing home care that the caregiver is attentive to the needs and changes that are taking place. By being attentive, the caregiver, will notice when there are emotional or physical changes in the person he or she is caring for. *Dependability. Those who need home care don't usually just need it sporadically. Rather it is on a regular basis, so it is imperative that a caregiver be dependable and show up to provide the care that the person needs and is counting on. *Trustworthiness. Caregivers are often in a position that will allow them to have access to the belongings of the person they are caring for. It is crucial that the caregiver be someone who is trustworthy and will not breach that trust by taking advantage of the person her or she is caring for.

Empathy and compassion. ... By showing both empathy and compassion as a caregiver will let the person I'm caring for allow trust also shows I care about the person and will do what I can to help them. Attracting me to being a caregiver was know the help I could bring. Also knowing one day I will need the same help. I enjoying almost every aspect of a caregiver. More so putting smiles on those faces who feel they have been forgotten. That's my achievement in this field making those happy, and feeling valued.

I love being in healthcare and with my experience in the hospital I have realized that I enjoy working with the elderly more than any other groups of people. I enjoy being able to not only provide care but provide companionship and build relationships with my patients. Hello. I am the oldest child of 4, I was born into a caregiver role. I originally thought I wanted to be a nurse, however while in nursing school I realized that I would never be able to give my patients the time and attention I felt they deserved. I enjoy helping people. The satisfaction of knowing someone actually cares about their well being and listens to what they have to say means a lot to me. My own personal success story happened while matched with a child who after about a year had a total personality change, became affectionate towards others, no longer was,violent, and began to enjoy activities and the company of others.

I love everything about being a HHA. I love caring for the elderly and treat alll my clients like there own my family. From conversation to bathing and dressing and just making sure they feel comfortable.
