I started as an Activities Coordinator at a Memory Care community and then advanced to become a Sales Counselor at an Assisted Living/Memory Care Community. I have a passion for serving seniors and especially love working with those who have neurological disease states such as Dementia or Alzheimer's. I paid (out-of-pocket) for "Core" Training to become an Executive Director at a Senior Living Community. I am looking for a part time opportunity and one that is somewhat flexible to supplement my income. I can provide reliable references as a testament to my dedication to serve the senior population! Before I discovered my passion, I was a marketing executive for 20 years.

Started my career in the home-health care field in August of 2018, I learned to listen to my clients with not only my ears, but my heart, and soul. Always asking myself how I would like to be treated if I were in their shoes. The last two years I have assisted people in getting well and have also worked at keeping some people as comfortable as possible at the end of life. I understand truly what it means to be patient, and I want you to feel comfortable. Whether it be companionship, accompanying to a Dr.'s appt's, preparing meals, housekeeping, medication reminders, assisting with bathing, ect., my goal is to put a smile on the face of others. I will close with "The Starfish" by Loren Eisely. Once upon a time, there was an old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before he began his work. Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions. Off in the distance, the old man noticed a small boy approaching. As the boy walked, he paused every so often and as he grew closer, the man could see that he was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea. The boy came closer still and the man called out, "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?" The young boy paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can't return to the sea by themselves," the youth replied. "When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water." The old man replied, "But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I'm afraid you won't really be able to make much of a difference."The young man listened politely, then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea. "It made a difference for that one."

You don't have to be born or aged to have a disability. I feel that any one of us could be disabled if an accident happens. And if that did happen, I would hope that I had caring individuals to also help me. I want to help and care for someone the way I would want to be cared for. To be respected the way I would want respect. I enjoy being able to help. Bringing someone into your home requires a lot of trust. I am honest and trustworthy. My greatest achievement has been being able to witness true happiness in a highly disabled individual!

Christopher A.

I started off in the business almost 10 years ago helping my mom with clients yardwork and chores and transportation. A little more than 7 years ago I began helping a man with arthritis. I helped him get his day going, straightened up and returned in the evening to put him to bed. I did rehab work in the afternoons. It keeps you on the go, and the days go quickly, which I like. I don't like just putting in hours with clients, I like doing things with them. I was a sales manager for 5 years but this work much more rewarding. People truly appreciate it when you help them. I like make life more manageable or improvements in their health, its good work. I have a lot of experience with gait belts. My use of this is easily my best contribution to the client. I have prevented dozens of falls, and that is something to hang your hat on. No one falls with me.

I had no idea when I started my first job as a caregiver that this is what I would fall in love with it, but life is life. My top personality traits that help me be a great caregiver, is my level of patience, communication skills, and the simple fact that I genuinely care about the people that I work with. Even though it is a job I see it as an opportunity to learn new things, and gain new perspectives on life. I worked for comprehensive health care, and have loved it sense. My mother is a CNA and works in home health care, she helped me get into this line of work. I was afraid at first but I began to truly enjoy helping others, I love hearing their story's and giving them companionship. Recently, one lady I was taking care of passed away and you never know how much of an impact they have on you until that happens. It really opened up my mind and heart working with the elderly, I personally am proud of just being able to make people happy.
