I became a caregiver 5 years ago fresh out high school after helping my grandma through her breast cancer process. I believe my patients, care, and communication skills make me one out of many great caregivers. I enjoy assisting residents with there every day needs and knowing I'm helping someone accomplish something. I knew I wanted to take care of people when my grandpa was sick when I was in 6th and 7th grade. Visiting him in the nursing home and hospital pushing him around and making him smile was the best feeling ever. I decided to go to Lawrence County Vo-tech for my 11th and 12th grade year to become a CNA and started working my senior year in November 2008. In 2012 I left that job to go to the facility my grandma resided in until she was well enough to go home which was about 2.5 years, and continued to work until I moved in 2016 I currently am working for St. Barnabas now as a hospice aide part time. I recieved an award for employee of the month in August from them. Overall, I enjoy helping care for people, and make them feel good about themselves. A smile of appreciation in return is so rewarding.

Throughout my profession, I learned the most significant lesson that can never be taught in a training; everyday life experiences. My name is Mike, and I grew up with my grandfather and aunt and witnessed personally their daily problems. I saw how tough life can be through simple things we often take for granted such as walking, doing laundry and preparing food. It gave me a reason and a purpose to help other families as well. As time passes, it's natural to be concerned for the well-being of our own and our family. I know for me, my grandfather's safety was important to me all the way to his last day from cancer. I know the importance of trusting the right person during their most difficult times in their life. I also have 10+ years of hands on work experience as a Direct Support Professional Caregiver and a College Student Caregiver / Note Taker. This provided me with greater experience working with people with various diagnoses and limitations. I am a mother of four children so I know what it takes for patients and being compassionate, helpful, friendly person.
