I have always loved working with the elderly since before I became a registered nurse. I like helping others and just listening to their stories. I am dependable and punctual. I believe it is essential to have patience when working with the elderly. When the well-being of an elderly individual depends on your presence you need to be there. Compassionate, supportive, supportive, and creative are all very helpful as well. I grew up with my mother and grand mother both working in the hospital as ICU nurses. My first real job was a caregiver at a small assisted living center. I absolutely fell in love caring for the elderly.

I learned from my previous residents' that it's important to have a sense of humor in this field of work, which I can think I'm a comedian some days! I never knew this work was meant for me until it just fell into my lap one day and was told by many I was a natural. I find it very rewarding seeing my patient's happy, see someone relieved of their pain, or just making that special bond or friendship after earning their trust. Whether it be just for a moment in each day, to see that I made my patient's life a little bit easier for them-makes caregiving so worthwhile. Something I have achieved would be staying in this field of work for so many years. There are people that simply aren't capable of doing the "dirty work" that comes with the job title. I can admit sometimes there will be "bad days,"but will always realize that at the end of the day- the good outweighs the bad....
