Hello! I have been a caregiver/CNA for almost 5 years now, working in facilities and in-home care. I first decided to become a caregiver to gain some experience in the healthcare field as I was going to school for Nursing, and quickly fell in love with it. Caregiving gives me a sense of purpose that no other job has done before, I enjoy knowing that I am making a difference in somebody's day and helping others that may not be able to do things as easily as they used to be able to. I have met some amazing people these past years and have shared some ever-lasting moments. Hello, my name is Karen Palmer. I started doing in-home health care in 2010. I knew at an early age that working in the healthcare field was something that I wanted to do. I believe it is my calling from God. Therefore, I put my all into the care I provide for each individual. A few of my personality traits are caring, compassionate, understanding, loyal, and trustworthy. What attracted me to becoming a caregiver is both of my parents were CNAs, and as a child, they often took us to visit their job. I can remember sitting there watching the residents and feeling the need to help. It has always been in my heart to help those in need, and I was placed on earth to care for those individuals when needed. The things I enjoy the most about being a caregiver are knowing I did my best to help someone and seeing how thankful they are that I could help. The personal achievements that I am most proud of are returning back to school, receiving a High School Diploma, and graduating from college with an Associate degree. I did something I never thought about doing, and I did it for my children and myself. I couldn't be more proud of myself for setting goals and seeing them through to the end.

I'm dependable, respectful, understanding. I create life long bonds, with patients and clients I meet. I'm very social and all around loving person. I care about others and what brings them happiness!

I have always wanted to commit myself to doing something meaningful in my career and I felt that becoming a CNA wold provide that while I was in school for my bachelors and next for my masters in PA studies. To be spending my days helping sick people to feel well, to help educate people in how best to take care of themselves is something that has always spoken to me. Working as a CNA has been a great opportunity because it has confirmed in my mind what I had been anticipating, which is how much I look forward to working with patients. It has allowed me to be the positive presence that I want to be in people's lives. Leaving work every day knowing I made a difference not only in someone's life but in their well-being is the most rewarding thing that I have ever done. Not only do I enjoy it because of the positive impact it allows me to make in their daily lives but also because of the way they impact me. Caring for them forces me to figure out the best way to help people feel better. Sometimes that means really learning to understand the effects of behavioral or cognitive disorders, and sometimes that means helping people cope with the pain, fear and anxiety that medical challenges can bring. I am very compassionate and love to makemy clients happy and comfortable in their home. My mom passed away from cancer and seeing how great she was treated by her caregivers made me want to do the same for others. I love being able to help clients stay in their homes.

I am currently a lab assistant/phlebotomist working for Mercy Health in Muskegon, MI. In early June 2018, I will be relocating to Seguin, TX to be closer to my family. Since November of 2016, I have worked part to full time as a traveling lab assistant at two separate geriatric/long-term care facilities, while also working in both inpatient hospital settings and outpatient draw stations. During this time I have constant interaction with patients of all ages, and heavy exposure to geriatric care and care settings, ranging from assisted living care, short-term nursing home recovery, to hospice care. I am passionate about providing quality, dedicated care to my patients, and peace of mind to their families. I love cooking and meal prep and am more than able to accommodate cooking and shopping based on dietary needs. I am more than capable and willing to help with any extra cooking, cleaning, and errands, as well as offer companionship. My favorite part of working in healthcare has always been working to achieve comfort and happiness for my patient while giving them the quality care that I would expect any caregiver to give to a member of my own family.
