My mother has severe dementia and Titi's calm personality and gentle manner worked very well in this situation. She prepared meals, did laundry and light housekeeping and helped with my mother's personal care. She did a good job of "tuning in" to my mother's moods and gave her ample quiet time when she needed it. Titi was competent without being overbearing. My mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2000? As the cancer progressed, she wasn't able to take care of her self.During her illness, she lived with me and I began to care for her. Taking care of my mother gave me purpose and I wanted to help others like her.This is why I decided to take the steps to becoming a caregiver.
