My personality traits to help be a great caregiver is, Patience, People who need care often take longer to complete simple tasks. They may ask the same questions over and over. Good caregivers need patience to deal with anything from a loved one's memory lapses to angry outbursts. They practice staying calm and avoiding frustration. Compassion, Empathy and understanding are absolutely necessary. Even when caring for an abusive person, caregivers try to remain empathetic and understanding. Being Present, Good caregivers know the importance of respecting their loved one's current abilities. Rather than focusing on what their loved one can no longer do, a good caregiver tries be in the moment with them -- looking at photos, listening to music, cooking a favorite meal, remembering that they weren't always sick. Willing to assist, Always being able to be able to willing to help and assist the patient with anything they need! What attracted me to be a caregiver is, my grandmother and also, I enjoy working with people and most enjoy jobs where you have one-on-one interaction with others. I enjoyed taking care of elder family members and would like to help others in this way. I love older adults and feel you can get along well with a variety of elders. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is that being a caregiver provides a sense of pride and joy that most people don't experience in their day jobs. I became an EMT-IV 7 years ago, I enjoy the medical field and the sense of accomplishment it gives me after helping someone. I resigned from EMS because of the 48 and some 72 hour straight shifts. It was interfering with my family time. My father in law was in a horrible ma 8 years ago and it left him immobile, he was a diabetic, had a feeding tube and colostomy bag. After bringing him home from the MED of 6 months, I chose to help care for him. After his passing, I then decided I wished to use my knowledge and my love for helping others in a different atmosphere just as I did for him.
