I am upbeat, patient and understanding. I am also very sensitive (every one tells me that as well) I am always the helper or want to fix things. I worked with the very young population ages 2-5 with severe/profound special needs. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The only downside is when one of my young children passed away. Unfortunately it was quite often with the amount of care they needed. I had been working with a small child one to one for 2 years, from age 2-4 I was devastated when I came in to work looking forward to her smiling face, just to find out she had passed. Needless to say I was an emotional wreck and realized it was too much for me and it's something I could never get used to (as they say). I decided to care for the elderly as they need help to be as independent as possible. If I can put a smile on their face or help them stay independent as long as they can, then I am happy. When my papa passed away from Alzheimer's and dementia is when I wanted to give back to anyone struggling with this awful disease. I realized how rewarding it was for me. One thing I am most proud of is being able to get through to the hardest of residents when no other staff member could. When all the staff that was assigned to care for her would call on me to take care of them.. that is a good feeling.
