I like to think that I make a great caregiver for many reasons. I know when to just listen, when to chit chat. I like to make sure all appointments are made and met with all the information needed. I have kept a running list of blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate, oxygen levels, and temperature for the doctors as well as for the family information. This is also great information to keep in mind if your loved one may be getting ill or maintaining. I truly like to be able to sit with someone and make them feel as if they are just having a visit with someone that can help them as well. I enjoyed being able to do memory work too...looking through all photos and talking about them, talking about her history from growing up to now, working on memory games. The lady I took care of had dementia, but we made no mention of it to her, but made sure she felt as if her life as no different as it was before she had dementia. I enjoyed being able to take her for her weekly pleasure trip for getting her hair done and getting her weekly sub. I made sure that I picked up her groceries, air filters, medications and any other needs to even include mini blinds, pet spa visits. I made sure she took her meds and found a method that made her appear as self sufficient as possible. I also made sure to care for the dog, the dogs meds, water, playtime.
