About Kaisha

Hey my name is Kaisha Houston I am 19 years old and have been a caregiver for my granny for years who recently passed in March. I recently just started to work with agencies because I did not have time before. I have been accepted into the nursing program this fall and I am so excited. The most I enjoy about being a caregiver is providing a happy environment at my patients time of need and building a great relationship with them. I am a happy and trustworthy person that can take on any challenge that comes my way.

I have been a caregiver since I was very young. My Daddy had Parkinson's for 30 years and helped to care for him until his death in 1991. In the last 10 years if my Daddy's life we had to help feed him, administer medications, bath him and dress him. Then in 2001 my Mother was diagnosed with dementia and congestive heart failure. In about 5 years the dementia progressed to full blown Alzheimer's with all of the side effects. In the last 3 years she couldn't feed or dress gerself, so, I performed all if these tasks for ger until she passed in 2015. I now help on the weekends take care of my uncle in Greenville, SC . He has Alzheimer's, Diabetes, COPD, Congestive Heart Failure. I administer meds, take blood counts and blood pressure, feed him, clean his house and wash his clothes. I have taken care if 1 terminally ill patient this last year and I sit periodically with a gentleman that has dementia.

I became a caregiver when I went back to college to get my BA in 2015. I had no idea how rewarding it would be or how well it would suit me! As a mother of a 1st grader and the daughter of elderly parents, I have more experience than my employment in the field would suggest. I am a naturally caring, trustworthy, and empathetic person. Being a caregiver means helping someone live their life to the fullest extent possible in a happy healthy environment. In my last year of college, I concentrated on social gerontology and my senior thesis was on age-segregation of the elderly. I am especially proud the genealogy researched for my last client. She was so pleased to have that record of her family's history and it was a project we could enjoy together.
