I basically became a Caregiver because of my grandmother. After my grandmother became disabled and unable to care for herself my aunts decided to place her in a nursing home. My grandmother did not receive the best of care, and although I was unable to physically intervene I sent up my prayers for my grandmother and I was encouraged to become a Caregiver from this experience. I like being a Caregiver because of the different people that I get to meet and help, and the new opportunities that I get to experience. I think that the achievement that I'm most proud of is finishing college, I am the only sibling (8) that has accomplished this goal, and it wasn't easy to do so raising a family. I am the second oldest child out of eight brothers and sisters. I'm married (33 yrs) with three living adult sons (2 children deceased), and 10 grandchildren (5 girls, 5 boys). I was raised in Brooklyn, NY, and I've been living in Columbia, SC since 1993.
