My name is Amber, I live in Midland with my husband and our dogs! I moved to Midland around 4 years ago and I fell in love with the area. One of my favorite things about being a caregiver is that I am helping someone, in some way. Whether this be cleaning, cooking, helping with personal care or just having a friendly conversation, I know that I am needed and making a difference. I was drawn to caregiving when I saw all of the help our family received for my grandmother. I realized that I was missing something in life, and chose to become a caregiver myself.

I like to see the look on the person's face when I walk in knowing that I'm there to help them out for the day or just there to sit and talk with them if they need it. Because sometimes that's just what a person needs is some there to talk to. I was attracted to this job because I knew there where people out there that needed the companionship at there own personal residence.

One fun fact about me is that my favorite animal is an elephant. Last summer I volunteered in Thailand for a month at a rural health clinic. While I was there I had the opportunity to swim and hike with "retired elephants" at an elephant sanctuary!

Though I enjoy the science and learning that goes along my journey, the reason I wake up every morning for this type of work is the people I get to directly interact with. I'm most proud of my experience making connections with the elderly in my nursing homes experiences, but also of my academic progress and leadership progress that I am taking with it.
