15 caregivers with Stroke experience found near Hartford
Strokes occur when a lack of oxygen causes sudden brain cell death. The oxygen deficiency is caused by either a blockage or tear in an artery supplying blood to the brain. Signs of a stroke include sudden loss of feeling and movement in one limb or one side of the body, as well as the loss of vision, balance, and consciousness. A stroke is also usually characterized by a sudden fall and vomiting, and is classified as a medical emergency. After an immediate hospital visit, stroke recovery requires assistance with daily activities, mobility, medications, and communication. Following a stroke, individuals may experience changes in memory, movement, appetite and eating ability, bladder or bowel function, sleep pattern, or judgment. To further the recovery process, caregivers should provide adequate social interaction to help individuals return to normalcy.
