Especially when it comes to a client that really doesn't like to talk much or may not have much energy or excitement during their day. I learned sometimes a smile and a good joke is the best medication. I believe that's what makes me a great care giver besides the fact that I am well experienced in bed transfers to toilet/sitting device and or wheelchair as well as usage of the Hoyerlift for bedbound clients. Average weight with proper technique, I can lift up to 250 pounds. I also have a great rapor with dementia as well as alzheimer patients. I am aware of the urgency of structuring a reasonable schedule for them so they dont become antsy during sundowning. Keeping a close source of comforting solutions to calm their frustration. Such as a cellular device to contact a familiar voice or face call from a family member. I have been doing home care since I was 20 years old and I have work for maybe 5 to 6 agencies throughout the past 15 years of off and on again service throught New York City while being a mom of 2 beautiful children who are now all grown up. I always had a way of making people cheer up. I had one clients family that were so happy with my service she wrote a letter to the job to Express her satisfaction with my care for her mother. She said it was my calling from God. I don't want to exaggerate my story but I have been blessed with seeing happy faces, when i arrived in the morning, to a few clients home. With most of my cases. I am definitely grateful for keeping alot of my clients healthy, happy and safe.
