Hey there, My name is Melody DeGrave and I live in Green Bay. I am currently a Certified Medical Assistant/LPN. I previously worked as a CNA for 7 years in Nursing homes, assisted living facilities, Rehab facilities and Disabled homes. I have been a nurse for 5 years at Aurora Healthcare working as a float nurse in OB/GYN, behavioral health, pediatrics, family practice and internal medicine. I recently started a new position with St Elizabeth hospital in the heart and lung unit. I previously took care of a paraplegic man in his home for 3 years with a hoyer lift. I would go to his home every morning before work and give him a shower/ get him ready for the day and give him any meds or apply any topicals he may have needed. I loved doing this, I am capable and I am more than willing to help where help is needed. I currently work Monday-Thursday 830:430. I would be willing to help any times outside of those hours. I started caregiving when i was 16 because I wanted to one day become a nurse which is what i will be going to school for. I am very compassionate and caring which is what drew me to this field. I always loved the idea of being able to make a difference in someone else's life. Being able to care for them and overall be there for them is what i love to do. I always try to build a connection with them because i believe thats most important for there to be trust and an understanding. A personal achievement that i am proud of would be going for further education.

I am college educated, wore many hats in life and in my professional experiences, and I have worked great with elderly as well as children in care taking over the past years. I'm patient, kind, hard working, clean, and very grounded and balanced person.

Caregiving takes a special type of person. It can be very difficult for clients to receive help-- especially if it is through an agency that throws them a different caregiver every time. This job requires that you keep that thought in your mind at all times, and understand the discretion and quiet dignity that it calls for. Being younger can cause an issue for me due to the "generation gap" between me and my clients; however, what I lack in that area, I make up for with a lot of love (and a little goofiness, because that's important too). Although I am newer to this, I have had a lot of positive feedback so far, from both families and clients. I would prefer to work with someone consistently, so we can build a relationship that this type of care needs, which in turn will be less of an intrusion on my client's personal space since they will be seeing a familiar, smiling face. My job is extremely fulfilling, and I often go home with my heart FULL!! I can see myself doing this for a long, long time. I am a very caring person and friendly. I do quality work and I love to help others in any way that I can. I became a caregiver because I enjoyed spending time with other generations, other than my own, and understanding their perspective. I also became a caregiver because I love helping others in any way that I can. I got my CNA certification about 8 months ago and I have worked (and still am working) 2 jobs doing in home care. I am however looking for another job not working with a company and being a private caregiver.
