About Shelby

As a child, my mom worked in Alzheimer's , dementia, and other neurological disorders at UT Medical Center. I volunteered with her through high school then majored in social work in college. From a very young age, I knew I had a passion for making people happy and making sure they were okay. I am happiest when I am helping others. I am a kind individual who's incredibly detail oriented. I am very organized and like to keep things clean. In my spare time, I do art and would enjoy doing activities with anyone I look after. In a previous position, I used art therapy with autistic children to great success. I am certified in CPR, first aid, and Safe Crisis Management(Emergency restraints).

Norris Academy is a residential treatment facility for children 5 to 17 with varying degrees of neurodevelopmental disorders. Most of the residents struggled with aggression and weren't safe at home with their families, I worked on a unit specifically with nonverbal, low-functioning autistic adolescents. I carried out all of assisted daily living (Showering, dressing, changing, and feeding) as well as maintaining their living environment(Cleaning, laundry, housekeeping). First aid and CPR certified. Training included Safe Crisis Management, which was a last resort protocol in which residents could be restrained when they were being unsafe or dangerous to themselves or others.

My mother was the manager of Cole Neuroscience Center while I was growing up. Cole split into two entities in 2017 when Pat Summit, a long time patient, passed away.
