Yes, Walking, feeding, dressing, grooming, Toileting, bathing, & transferring are pertinent requirements when living independently. To a greater degree, IADL's are key to managing independence. Managing finances, transportation, medications, communications, house cleaning & home maintenance are key. However, When looking at tasks of daily living, one thing that can't be taught is companionship. It only comes with experience. You can live independently, but without a gentle touch, relationships or conversation, emotional well-being & ones sense of self purpose is lost. It also has a profound effect on a patients health, & state of mind. Its impractical to make a positive impact or change without them feeling emotionally and physically safe.
