I was born and raised in Kenya, a country in East Africa. I graduated from the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton in 1999 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. I thought I was going to pursue a career in accounting until I came to America. My first job was that of a caregiver in an assisted living community. I find it very fulfilling to help someone to live a honorable life. At the age of 20, I lost my father to AIDS. During the late stages of the disease, I had to take care of him. Every person I've had to take care of, I've never given less than I gave my father. I worked for my last employer for 11 years. I took care of her husband who had alzheimer's until he passed on in 2012. She asked me to stay because she was already old too. She passed on in 2021, we were family.
Caregivers that work non-full-time jobs or irregular shifts can negotiate extra compensation in addition to their standard hourly wage.
