About Janie

I treat the individual with the upmost respect and dignity. I’m compassionate, caring, and loving; and go above and beyond was is expected of me. I started out being a caregiver for relative and/or family members of friends. I saw firsthand at how some caregivers just took it as a job and did not get emotionally involved with the individual but I on the other had do. I want them to feel comfortable, want them to know that they matter just because they are ill/elderly their opinions/wants still matter. I’ve worked with intellectually disabled individuals as well. I feel like I am their voice and stand up for what is right and wrong for the person. My past experiences have been positive with the individuals and/or relatives, I have been invited to continue to visit them even though I am no longer employed at the company I worked for. The residents’ bonds were strong; they knew when I would arrive and would keep a look out for me. I was a part of their daily routine but they were also a part of my life.

My major objective for becoming a caregiver is to make a difference in people's lives. People need a doctor to diagnose and treat their diseases and ailments, they need a nurse to administer medication and treatment when they are sick. However, at all times they need a caregiver to listen to them, attend to their everyday needs and treat them with compassion. That is where I come in. What I like about being a caregiver is that it affords me the opportunity to use what I have, the skill, knowledge, experience coupled with love, honesty and integrity to help people in need. One personal achievement I am proud of is the completion of the NRCPT Phlebotomy Technician's certificate and yet, rather than sit down to do venipuncture, I chose to do what I like most--care for people. I have worked in various aspects of the healthcare system. Overseas, I worked as pharmacy technician, medical assistant and nursing assistant for eight years. Here in the United States I have taken care of different kinds of patients especially the geriatric population and those with Alzheimer's disease as a professional certified by the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. I am very reliable, dependable and both a team player and team leader. I do my job with integrity and honesty. Moreover, I take the job personal in that I view the patient as if he/she was my father/grandfather, mother/grandmother, uncle/aunty.
