About Lugene

Right upfront I want all to know that I am fully vaccinated. I am a happy person, love jokes, rock and roll along with the big band era. I quilt, make toothbrush rag rugs, do canning. I enjoy doing crafts and sometimes get my client involved in some type of projects to work with their hands and minds. Most seems to enjoy it. As a caregiver I always make sure that my client is clean and dry, treat them as a family member. I do like a clean kitchen and bathroom. And truthfully I don't dust like I should. I found that I really enjoyed taking care of people. I am a person who sees a problem, I will think on it and then find a solution to fix it. Love animals. The achievement I am most proud of is 4 years ago I quit smoking after 50 years of smoking. Over the years I have found that one really important thing in being a great caregiver is to listen because sometimes that is what the client is really wanting at that time.

I've been with this company for 10 years. I've taken care of one gentleman who had Alzheimer's and a colostomy. For him I would fix him breakfast, do laundry, we would go together and grocery shop, also took him to all doctors appointments. Then three ladies all over 80 years. And my last lady was 90 when I started with her and I cooked breakfast and lunch for her, grocery shop, took her to all doctors appointments. We go have lunch at our favorite restaurant at least once a month. I got her to work beading embroidery and she worked on it till a month before she passed. I was with her almost 4 years. For all I did some cleaning and laundry.

Started when she had just turned 100 and cared for her till she was 104 and she passed. She had degenerative eye disease so she was blind. She used a walker in the beginning and I just guided her. Did laundry for her and made sure her room was clean. She would get blisters on her feet and I would care for those and get them cleared up.

I really enjoy helping the patient comfortable in their own space. My grandfather and the way he was treated in a nursing home. He just wanted to be at his home. Helping my patient feel comfortable and relaxed. Letting him or her tell stories about the past, love, kids, what it was like in the old days. Being there for them when they need me most. Making them feel useful and they do matter
